HAVI Logistics is one of the biggest logistics service providers for the food and drinks industry in Europe and has three sites in Austria. From here, HAVI supplies household-name companies throughout the country – including McDonald’s, Nordsee, Vapiano and BackWerk. The specialist logistics operator uses electric forklift trucks for goods handling at its warehouses.
HAVI previously used battery chargers with 50 Hertz transformer technology to charge the traction batteries. However, the energy losses when using this technology were very high and the bulky chargers took up valuable space. For this reason, a decision was taken to replace the outdated infrastructure. The requirements on the new system were demanding: batteries of different types and ages had to be integrated into an evenly utilised pool and there were also different temperature zones to consider.
HAVI found a suitable partner for this project in Fronius: the energy-efficient and battery-friendly Selectiva battery charging systems extend the service life of batteries and reduce energy consumption – resulting in lower operating costs and more sustainable intralogistics. The “temperature-controlled charging” feature, which adapts the charging voltage to the temperature of the connected battery, is especially useful. Fronius also supported HAVI in the planning, analysis and project design stages for all three sites and ensured that servicing and installation ran smoothly, including compliance with all relevant safety aspects.
